The 48-Hour Sprint: How to Focus When You Just Want to Fly Kites
Share
It is Monday, January 12th.
If you look out of your office window right now, you can probably see them. The practice kites are already in the sky. The markets are overflowing with Manja (string) and sweets.
We are just 48 hours away from Uttarayan / Makar Sankranti.
This makes today a very difficult Monday. Your body is at the desk, but your mind is already on the terrace. You might be tempted to slack off, but we all know the danger of that: if you don't finish your work now, it will be waiting for you on Thursday with a vengeance (along with a post-festival hangover).
At Script & Soul, we propose a different approach. Don't drag your feet. Sprint.
The "Pre-Flight" Checklist
Treat today and tomorrow (Tuesday) like a mini-week. You have 16 working hours to earn your freedom.
Open your diary and create a new page titled: "The Pre-Flight List."
1. The "Must-Drop" Tasks Draw a line down the middle of the page. On the left, write tasks that must happen before Wednesday morning.
-
Invoices that need to be paid.
-
Client emails that can't wait.
-
Team updates. Be ruthless. If it can wait until Thursday, it goes to the right side.
2. The "Right Side" (Thursday's Problem) On the right side, write down everything else. These are the things you are giving yourself permission to ignore for now.
-
Long-term strategy planning.
-
Non-urgent meetings.
-
Organizing files. Writing them down clears your anxiety. You aren't forgetting them; you are rescheduling them.
3. The Reward Visualization At the bottom of the page, write down your reward.
-
"If I finish the left side, I will be on the roof by 9 AM Wednesday with no guilt."
-
"If I finish this, I can eat Undhiyu in peace."
Earn Your "Kai Po Che" Moment
The joy of a festival is doubled when you have a clear mind. There is nothing worse than checking work emails on your phone while trying to fly a kite.
Use your diary to build a wall around your work today. Finish the sprint. Then, cut the cord on work just like you cut a kite.
